I could’ve been finished working on that manuscript had I been focused. This isn’t a pity or bashing party of complaints, but rather observations. My concentration was off, and because it was late (and I needed to resume writing), I wanted an easy way to refresh my focus.
Everything has an opposite, so I related that to negative feelings such as anxiety and exhaustion (because, at least for me, when I’m ridiculously tired, I actually can’t sleep) in order to balance them out. Here’s what I did tonight:
1. Realized that I was unfocused.
2. Noted that the opposite of unfocused is focused.
3. Researched ways to increase focus.
4. Decided which ones I’d do.
5. Did ’em.
Ways to increase focus included cardio, drinking more water, meditating, and writing tasks down. Cool. I decided to go ahead and knock all of those out. You won’t always feel like doing that though, so be okay with choosing one or two from the list. And, if you want to, remix it a little. Instead of doing cardio, I did yoga, and instead of writing tasks down, I did some freewriting.
I was also “supposed” to start Oprah and Deepak’s guided meditation today. I wasn’t really feeling it though. Had I remained in that space, I would’ve probably would’ve thrown off my routine by avoiding something that I didn’t feel like doing. It’s not that I didn’t want to meditate, I just don’t feel like that kind right now. I’m actually digging the one I affirmed through The Power of Spiritual Self-Care book.
It’s really just that easy. As a reminder of how to further swerve excuses, I’ll share this too. I wanted to a digital cleanse which includes recording yourself talking into your phone. It was going on two in the morning though and the only light I had was from candles which does nothing for selfie-mode (lol). I didn’t feel like turning on the light either, so I just did what I would’ve done without the phone. Easy.

The next time you’re feeling less than you’d desire to, including not being able to focus, try it out and let me know how it works for you.
