Freewriting is another word for writing fast. It’s not giving yourself a chance to second-guess what comes out. Jill Scott, who I recently seen in concert, shared that “Jahraymecofasola,” featured on her Woman album, was written in this way too.
This style of writing produces pieces that are real, unfiltered, and capable of surprising even you. When I’m full of mixed emotions, freewriting is one of my resources to getting to the bottom of how I feel and getting back to how I wanna feel.
Last night, I freewrote an essay on meeting my recent soul mate (as I believe we have more than one) and how that person eventually become an unhealthy soul tie that I had to release.
I wrote it last night and let it sit. This morning, I typed it up in Google Docs. While typing it, I made a few corrections. Then I copied/pasted on Medium. There, I re-read it and made a few more corrections. Once it was on a new platform, it was like I was reading it from a new reader’s perspective.
That was the process. Here’s the product. It’s titled, “Dear Soul Mate (who eventually becomes an unhealthy soul tie).”
