Paris and I attended high school together. It was her smile and style that stood out most to me. I recall reconnecting after graduation. As most recent graduates do, we shared our future plans. We both planned to become attorneys. Well, needless to say, we chose alternate routes. When I discovered that Paris had slipped into a pair of five-inch pumps and jetted toward her dream of fashion, it was physically impossible for me to be any more proud of her.
Fashion…fits her. Like a pair of Chanel lambskin gloves interlaced with leather. When I thought to launch #GenYBG, Paris was definitely one of the first entrepreneurs to come to mind. Thus, I asked if she’d mind sharing some of her intellect. Her verbatim response? “Would love to :)” So, here ’tis:
How old are you?
I am 27.
When did you know that you wanted to work for yourself?
I knew I wanted to work for myself after an agency I was working for closed down. From that day on, I knew I couldn’t put all my eggs in one basket.
What do you do and how long have you been in business?
I own a wardrobe consultant company as well as an online women’s boutique by the
name of Classy Closet. I’ve been in business for three years now and I still don’t have it all figured out.
Describe your ideal client/customer.
I don’t have an ideal client. All my clients/customers come from different walks of life. Some are entrepreneurs who want a new look, a few are young fabulous ladies who look up to me for inspiration/motivation and others are working moms who want to look good after their 9-5’s.
Did you ever think to give up?
Honestly, giving up isn’t an option and has never been a thought of mine.
What advice would you lend an aspiring entrepreneur?
Research the market you’re interested in to see if there’s a need for the product or service you would like to provide. Write down all of your ideas, visions, plans and dreams. Ask yourself and be honest, “Am I willing to put in the necessary time to make my business successful? What is my motive/reason for starting a business? Am I passionate about this idea?” Lastly, don’t discuss your ideas or next move with too many people; just do the work.
