“No man may make another free. Freedom is something internal…Liberate the self, and all else follows. Never succumb.” —Zora Neale Hurston
A Lineage of Untamed Women is a live reading experience that brings together stories of real and fictional women who choose themselves—often at great cost:
Jezebel continuing to worship the gods and goddesses of her culture instead of conforming to the religious beliefs of her new city. Lauren Olamina creating, sharing and expanding Earthseed despite the doubts, the laughter, and cult accusations. Janie Crawford taking a chance with a much younger man with plenty talent and charisma but no money. Zora traveling the world, often alone, as a black woman in the 1920s.
Each gathering explores what it means to trust your instincts, challenge expectations, and live with conviction.

I created this series as a way to study and share the women who have shaped how I understand freedom. Women who were misunderstood, judged, or labeled, but who remained rooted in their truth anyway. These readings are an invitation to sit with their stories, reflect on our own lives, and consider what it looks like to move with that same kind of clarity and courage.
No two events are exactly the same. Each iteration shifts based on the theme, the space, and the moment. The core remains the same: a lineage of women who refused to be contained.
The long-term vision is to take A Lineage of Untamed Women across the country: bookstores, galleries, community spaces, and living rooms.
