Tonight’s Full Moon Rituals

I’ll review my goals/intentions

New Moons are excellent times to plant new intentions. Full Moons, on the other hand, are great opportunities to review them. How is your progress? How does it feel? If you’re on track, then celebrate! Get even deeper in love with it. Close your eyes and visualize it coming to pass. Crave it, see it, hear it, feel it, and even taste it.

If you aren’t making any progress, but you’re still very much so passionate about it, then this is a great time to refuel that ambition and get back in the groove of it. Make specific plans on how you intend to manifest this desire. Give the actual intention itself a lot of attention tonight.

If it’s feeling forced and causing a lot of stress, it may not be a good time right now. Release it. Give yourself that permission without feeling a lick of guilt about it. Then simply redirect your course. What are you wanting right now? Maybe it’s falling in love with your body again, reconnecting in your relationships, committing to cleaner eating, or finishing your book.

I’ll partake in a digital cleanse

I did this for the first time one day last week. The best way to describe it was like a verbal journal entry. You set your alarm for five minutes then video record yourself talking. Whatever’s on your mind, say that. In my experience, like freewriting, I’m kind of verbally wandering for the first minute or so before settling into a specific subject.

If you’re finished before the timer is done, just sit and think about whatever you want to think about. Once the alarm goes off, then close your eyes and take three full belly breaths. When finished, set your alarm for four minutes. During this time, you should replay your video at least once. Afterwards, you can choose to go back to thinking, or you can hit replay and continue observing you. For instance, the first I did this, I noticed how sad my eyes were. It’s a very intimate and honest practice.

When the alarm sounds, take three more belly breaths. When finished, delete the video. In doing so, also give yourself permission to release whatever it was and move on. Peep Akilah’s full-length, four-minute video description here.

I’ll dance

I have a friend who teaches belly dance. Another who teaches women how to access their sensual selves through dance. As a teenager, I enjoyed turning off the lights, blasting the music, and dancing alone in my bedroom. Dancing is sacred. When dancing, I feel a lot going on inside of me. Tension, stress and worry releases. My muscles and joints relax. I become more in tune with my body. At times, particular areas will, seemingly, move on their own. If I’ve been having back pain, for example, I’ll find myself making more snake-like motions. When my root chakra is out of wack, I’ll find myself winding my hips more.

As writers, dancing is particularly important because you need to loosen up. Think of yourself at a party that you really didn’t feel like going to. You’re probably standing off in a corner, watching, and maybe even sipping. A friend pulls you to the dance floor. Though reluctant, you follow. You might start off a little stiff, but eventually you warm up. Before you know it, your song comes on and you’re all in! Loose as a goose. That’s what you need! I suggest either including dancing as part of your writing ritual (before a writing a session, in the middle of one, or once you’re finished for the day) or as one of your exercise body movement slots.

I’ll cuss and cry and confess in my moon journal

My moon journal reflects the cycles of the moon and my mooning. On the first day of my period or on the day of a full moon, I like to flip back and read how I was feeling and moving on previous first days of menstruating or full moons or new moons. I plan to make a book out of it once I’ve reached a full twelve months. Can’t wait to share that with you.

In the meantime and in between time, how will you be celebrating the full moon tonight? Comment below and lemme know.

I love to dance. Dancing to me is as flying is to Superman.

Yes indeed! I love the dancing component too. I find that moving my waist and shoulders in particular help me shake off the weight of what-ifs and just sit down and let shit flow through me. Thanks for sharing!
