Writing through the retrograde

If you feel like it, that is.

In a super brief summary, a retrograde happens when Mercury catches up with Earth and gives the illusion that it’s spinning backwards. When this happens, coincidentally (or not), we tend to feel thrown off. So much so that even your electronics may be a bit out of wack. A retrograde lasts for about three weeks.

This round lasts from January 21st to February 11th.

Personally, I’ve been experiencing a bit of anxiety. Prior to this, I was super tired! All last week, I slept in until about eleven. Since CJ was born, I have yet to sleep past eight, so this was definitely out of the usual.

And when you’re experiencing a particular feeling, your tribe is usually right there with you.

Most certainly, mine has been. And since you’re reading this, that probably includes you too. Worry not. Let’s write instead. Writing has pretty much been saving my mind, body and spirit lately. Most times, I only feel like journaling. Purple Petals, a journal that I created which is full of prompts, has been serving me well. Get y’urns if you haven’t already. I’ve also been doing a lot of freewriting and noveling.

And because a lot of old emotions have been resurfacing, I’ve been writing a hell of a lot of letters only to burn them afterwards. I’ve been needing extended sessions of me-time, more cuddles and kisses, and beaucoup reasons to laugh. So I do it all. When I can, of course. When I can’t, I write. In case you’re in that blank space of wanting to express, but not knowing to say, then start here by considering:

  • What you want.
  • Where you want to be.
  • How you want to feel.
  • What your heart, stomach, womb, back, and hips are trying to tell you.
  • The music you’ve been gravitating toward.
  • Your inner little girl and old woman self.
  • Your recent physical, emotional, social, and sexual patterns.

Even if you don’t feel like writing; or you want something a little more active than the traditional style of meditation; or you desperately want to voice your needs, desires and fears, but prefer to do it solo; or you’re up for a new ritual; or you just feel like trying something new…

Peep this four-minute video created by my sis, Akilah, over on RadicalSelfie.comI’m trying it out tonight.

When you feel the nudge to do so, share your experience here. I’ll reply with mine. Like a shared recipe, you may end up tweaking it a bit to fit your flow. Looking forward to both writing, breathing, and speaking through this retrograde. You?
