8 steps for those ready to organize and act

I learned about a website called Blavity earlier this year. It’s ran by #youngblackandgifted writers who ain’t scared of stepping on toes. I made a mental note to eventually publish something with them, and…I just did!

The title is “8 Steps for Those Ready to Organize and Act.” A little background on what it is and why I wrote it: We’re all familiar, I’m sure, with the videos of police killing people like they ain’t people. Across the nation, people are scribbling their truths on posters and marching the streets.

While I respect the HELL outta them for doing so, protesting just ain’t for me. I feel like we all have a valuable role in the struggle and that we’d be a helluva lot more effective if we come together and identify those roles, risks, and responsibilities (and do so locally). Like they did back in the day. So I called on the spirits of Huey, ‘Pac, Afeni, John Africa, Harriet, Queen Nzingha of Angola, and my Beninese ancestors, and laid out these 8 steps for cities and counties to use as a guide in snatching back the peace, power, and prosperity we deserve.

Check it out here and be sure to share it, leave a comment under the article, and all that good stuff.
